Living Legends of Auto Racing Beach Parade - Presented by the City of Daytona Beach Shores.
On Tuesday, February 13, 2006 the Living Legends of Auto Racing held its annual Beach Parade and re-enactment of the measured mile. There were 60 to 70 vintage race cars, which set up first at the Daytona Beach Drive In Christian Church on A1A in Daytona Beach Shores, courtesy of Rev. Larry Deitch. The parade of cars had a motorcycle escort down to the beach, where cars were set up for public display, many of the retired drivers and car owners were there to have pictures taken and sign autographs.
To lead off the parade down the beach was Uncle Sam (our own Vice President John West) on his motorcycle. He was followed by Daytona Beach Shores Mayor Greg Northrup and Councilwoman Dr. Jenny Celona, who rode in a vintage fire engine and Vice Mayor Paul DeMange and Councilman Ron Brown, who were in a convertible.
When the Parade reached its destination about 4 miles down the beach Flagman Harvey Crowley waved the start of the re-enactment of the measured mile. The Volusia County Beach Patrol timed the speeds and they guided the parade back up the beach.
Special Thanks to Ray & Barbra Lindsey and their 1913 Stanley Steam Car for being a special guest of Glenn McGlone, Event Chairman.
